How to disable Ticker in Facebook

Many people don’t like this ticker bar because they want updates of only close friends of them.
But doesn’t the News Feed already do that? Well, yes and no. Think of Happening Now as a shortcut or quick-glance list that summarizes current activities in one easy-to-peruse spot.
So if a friend just liked a video someone posted yesterday, it will show up in the list now, not buried back in the feed.

Obviously the info will be a little redundant between Happening Now and the News Feed, so hopefully there will be a way to set some filters for it. If so, this could be pretty handy. For example, I’d love to have a real-time list of posted articles and vids only. The main feed could house the status updates and pics of kittens, but the sidebar would be like a personalized real-time content channel populated by friends’ picks.
Facebook ticker bar example:
Okay so how do we disable this happening now sidebar?
Hiding the sidebar is so simple as a pie

Step 2: Then click Hide Sidebar.

How to Turn  any photo into a Facebook Chat emoticon

Once you've gotten your brain wrapped around that limitation, here's what you have to do in order to use any available image as an emoticon:

  • Go to a profile (or page) which uses the photo you want as its profile image.
  • Take a close look at the profile (or page) URL. Make note of the profile ID (this could be a custom username or a long string of numbers).
Ex. facebook.com/prohackersden or 197027040378524
Then [[linktohow]] or [[197027040378524]] use on comment box
  • Stick that profile ID between double brackets while chatting or messaging people on Facebook.
  • Watch the profile ID (and the double brackets) get converted into the corresponding image as soon as you send a message to someone.

This means that if you want to use a photo of teen heartthrob LinkToHow, you could type "[[linktohow]]" into a message. (The "LinktoHow" text corresponds to the profile ID of his official Facebook page.)

How to Hide Old Facebook Updates in the Timeline View

Facebook recently released the Facebook timeline to every single Facebook user. As usual, some love the new and interesting feature, while others are busy grumping about it.
With the new Facebook Timeline feature, it will be very easy for anyone to see the updates you made long ago. If you yourself dig deep in your updates, you will be shocked to see that almost all the older updates made by you are either public or visible to friends of friends.

If you are looking for a way to keep things from your past to yourself, here are two ways to do so.
Limiting Old Posts
  • Step 1: Click on the drop-down arrow next to the home button located at the top right corner on your Facebook home page and click on privacy settings to open it.

  • Step 2: Hunt for Limit the Audience for Past Posts in the list and click on the link, Manage Post Visibility.

  • Step 3: Facebook will now show you a popup confirmation box asking you for the final time, whether you want to Limit Old Posts. Click on the button and make the necessary changes.

This method will change the visibility of all your older updates from Public or friends of Friends to just friends. However, if you want to exclude a particular post from the timeline once and for all, there’s a way for that too.
Hiding Single Posts
This method is a little manual and takes some time. First, you will need to manually search for the post you want to hide from your timeline. Once you have found it, click on the Pen Symbol near the star button and select either of the two, Hide from Timeline or Delete Post.
The first option will keep the post in the timeline for your personal records but will hide it from the eyes of the world. The second option, as the name suggests, will delete the particular post forever.

Conclusion
We all have questionable updates from our past, which can ruin (or at least make unnecessary troubles) in our present life, and since Facebook is nowadays a dominating force in each one’s life, it’s always recommended to keep it neat and clean.
